Photo archivist and Athens historian Gary Doster will draw from his sizable collection of Athens images on Wednesday, August 30 at the library to show houses, other structures, and scenes around town that no longer exist. Each will be followed by a photo of what the location looks like now, showing the vast changes that have taken place. It will be a trip by postcard through the distant and more recent past, accompanied by reminiscences and commentary. Audience participation is encouraged!

Gary L. Doster, a native of Athens, Georgia, is the author of From Abbeville to Zebulon, Early Post Card Views of Georgia, published by the University of Georgia Press, and A Post Card History of Athens, Georgia published by the Athens Historical Society. He is also the author of six other Georgia history books, Dear Sallie… The Letters of Confederate Private James Jewel, and he is a contributor to the mammoth anthology The Tangible Past in Athens, Georgia.
